What is it?
A form of hands on gentle body work or manual therapy that relies on subtle manipulation of your skeleton and connective tissue to relieve compression or restrictions with the goal to bring balance to the body. This can soothe pain and release both emotional and physical stress and tension. It’s also thought to help restore cranial mobility and ease or release restrictions of the head, neck, and nerves within the body.
How does it work?
The craniosacral rhythm is unique and different from both the cardiac( your heartbeat) and circulatory rhythms ( your breathing) within the body. During a session, small rhythmic vibrations are detected by the therapist. The goal throughout the session is to increase the flow of the craniosacral fluid or cerebral spinal fluid which cushions and protects the central nervous system. This technique assists in bringing balance to the body. We can experience a feeling of deep relaxation after a session or find the body has an increased sense of balance and ease.
What to expect?
You will lie comfortably on your back, fully clothed. You can expect to feel a gentle pressure no greater than the weight of a nickel to different points along the body from the feet to the head.
The technique works to rebalance body structures and the system after trauma- even years after a trauma has taken place. Craniosacral therapy can compliment the body’s natural healing process using the rhythm of the body to encourage this healing flow.
